Offerings
Classes and Private Sessions Are Offered In Person and Over Zoom
Progress Not Perfection
We are all different and so are our bodies, minds and hearts. Therefore, one-on-one sessions, duets/semi-privates and/or small groups are designed to assist students in achieving their personal needs and goals. Through these sessions Mikki develops a customized approach to your practice. By putting together the right modalities for each student, Mikki provides guidance and instruction for beginning a new practice or deepening a current one with particular focus on managing injuries or special conditions.
Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is a form of movement that emphasizes detail, precision, and alignment. It was founded and brought to the west by BKS Iyengar, one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. This style often uses props such as belts, blocks, chairs, blankets, and ropes as aids in performing the asanas. These props are often used in circumstance, situation, and maturity of the practitioner. They are tools used to refine the asanas and guide the practitioner. Props can be used to heal an injury, tone the body, remove fatigue, develop gracefulness, poise, and understanding. What is learned with support can later be used to refine and improve the classical execution of the postures.
Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the oldest surviving preventative healthcare system and the sister science to yoga. It originated in India more than 3000 years ago. Ayurveda increases your energy, reduces stress and anxiety, and promotes longevity. This ancient science emphasizes food as medicine. It encourages adding teas, spices, herbs and oils, as well as seasonal foods, daily routines, stress-reduction techniques, and self-care practices into your daily life.
In addition, it focuses on balancing the doshas (a combination of each element resulting in three doshas known as vata, kapha, and pitta). These doshas are responsible for each individual’s physiological, mental, and emotional health. Balancing the doshas prevents, slows down, stops, and even reverses the course of today’s most prevalent chronic health conditions.
Pilates
The Pilates Method, historically called “Corrective Exercise” and then “Contrology”, was created by Joseph Pilates approximately 100 years ago. The method is a systematic and disciplined approach to physical movement through focus and clarity of the mind. Joseph Pilates created this system of exercises to support the body, correct dysfunction, and improve movement. Pilates mat work and its extensive array of machines, or “apparatuses,” are designed to assist the individual in improving their alignment, strength and coordination.
